If you enjoy history, check out The National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center with its collection of more than 30,000 artifacts, IMAX Theater and authentic Fort Benning recreation. The National Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus has two period Civil War military vessels, uniforms, equipment and weapons used by the Blue and the Gray. The Columbus Museum is billed as the “largest art and history museum in Georgia and one of the largest museums in the Southeast”.

Among Columbus’s cultural attractions is downtown’s Springer Opera House, built in 1871 and featuring live performances. There’s also the 246,000-square-foot RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, Rankins Art Center, Bradley Theater, and Columbus Civic Center, which hosts pro hockey’s Cottonmouths and indoor football’s Lions.

For outdoor fun, walk along The Chattahoochee RiverWalk’s 15-mile trail that rolls from downtown to South Columbus. Two other popular trails are the Columbus Fall Line Trace and the Black Heritage Trail.
