Details About Potomac Cedar

There are an increased number of residents requiring some form of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia care. One of the biggest trends and demands in the industry is to provide some sort of memory care unit that ensures Resident Safety withoutpromising comfort. Unlike bigger institutional environments where staff cannot promptly satisfy a resident’s immediate needs, Potomac Cedar is a big contrast. Potomac Cedar provides a cozy environment and five private spacious bedrooms.

A National Institute of Health study reveals that individuals with memory impairment can improve through cognitive training, requiring one-on-one assistance and interaction that benefits cognitive stimulation. Potomac Cedar provides an intimate living room with a fireplace. Our breakfast room is filled with daylight and a dining room with a fireplace overlooks three acres of green lawn. Since poor lighting can contribute to agitation, depression, and other behavioral issues, residents with dementia generally require proper lighting and light filled spaces such as the rooms in this home.

Through use of Nintendo Wii interactive games and other programs, at Potomac Cedar, social interaction, brain stimulation, and bit of exercise is the key to enhancing one’s well-being. Our staff offers positive reinforcement and creates a lively atmosphere to encourage residents to become interactive during their daily activities.

Potomac Cedar underwent programmatic changes to ensure that residents could spend more time outside. All doors of Potomac Cedar are installed with chimes and door alarms. Potomac Cedar’s enclosed fence prevents residents to leave the premises. Although residents can enjoy the freedom to move and independence in a secured facility, it only allows them to go within an enclosed area for their safety.

It is important to note that dementia care is complex, and the dementia-centered focus is to train staff, create an environment, and install dementia secured equipment. Staff is continuously trained in communication, listening, and care techniques by our Assisted Living Managers and delegating nurse. The staff fosters the commitment of providing personalized care.

During the pleasant days of summer, fall, and spring, our residents can enjoy an afternoon or evening tea, coffee, or juice in our veranda over-looking flowers and plants that they helped seed on our Earth-day celebration.
