Details About Brookdale Woodbridge

Brookdale Woodbridge, formerly Emeritus at Woodbridge, is conveniently located right off the historic Merritt Parkway in Southern Connecticut. We are close to the city of New Haven yet far enough away to savor the peace and quiet of Woodbridge. Our senior livingmunity is set on acres of beautifully landscaped grounds with two courtyards, lovely gardens and walking paths. Our community is located high on a hill in the foothills of the Woodbridge countryside that overlooks beautiful West Rock. It is a quiet, peaceful country setting, however, we are located only minutes away from New Haven. Our proximity to Yale New Haven Hospital, the Hospital of Saint Raphael and some of the best doctors in the country offer peace of mind to our residents in the event doctors’ services are required.

Throughout the year, we take advantage of all that our beautiful state of Connecticut has to offer. We take many day trips and scenic drives to country farms for homemade ice cream, vineyards for wine tasting, local orchards for fruit picking, country roads for fall leaf peeping and the beaches for seafood lunches.

A Wonderful Selection

The majority of our assisted living residents live in lovely studio apartments. Our studios are spacious and bright and have beautiful views of woodlands, courtyards or West Rock. We also offer a limited amount of one-bedroom apartments. All of our units have individual climate controls, large walk-in closets, storage/linen closets, kitchenettes and spacious bathrooms with many safety features for peace of mind.

Brookdale Woodbridge is a warm, inviting community. We have a large porch running along the front of our community and residents are able to relax in comfortable rocking chairs and enjoy the lovely view of West Rock. Our landscaping is colorful and abundant. As soon as you walk in the front door, you can feel our welcoming atmosphere. The majority of our common areas are located on the first floor. The dining room opens to the living room and library and residents congregate in this area before and after meals as well as for musical performances. There is a large screen television, a library and a quiet screened porch which overlooks a peaceful courtyard. Our game room, with a professional poker table and television, is located on our second floor and our movie theater lounge is on the third floor. Our community has 114 assisted living senior apartments. Our memory care neighborhood is located on the first floor and has 24 rooms with a private, secured garden and separate dining and activity areas as well.

Strong, Caring, Professional Relationships

We have an excellent relationship with multiple home care providers including hospice care. Home care adds another level of care when skilled nursing or physical therapy is needed. We have a geriatric psychologist and social worker visit our community every two weeks and a podiatrist makes visits as well. We also use Quest Home Draw for convenient lab work. We have many highly respected primary care physicians and dentists less than five minutes from our community who are all very responsive to the care needs of our residents. We also nurture strong relationships with area hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and rehabilitation centers so that we can provide a seamless continuum of care for our residents.

Our Staff

At Brookdale Woodbridge, we are proud of the longevity of our staff. More than 75 percent of our staff has been with us for more than five years. Our management team is comprised of professionals that have tenures as long as nine years at our community. We are very selective in our hiring process, and as a result, we have a superb team that is dedicated to the care and needs or our residents.

We offer exceptional care in both assisted living and memory care. Our director of nursing has more than 30 years of nursing experience. In 2009, she was awarded the CALA (Connecticut Assisted Living Association) award for excellence. In 2008, our assistant resident care director was recognized by CALA for outstanding service and care for all residents and their families. She has many years experience in home care and has been the R.N. designee for five years.

A Wonderful, Active Lifestyle

Brookdale Woodbridge is a vibrant, active retirement community. Our residents enjoy a variety of entertainment options including weekly music concerts, guest speakers, cultural events, an educational series and more. Our daily calendar is filled with a variety of social activities including bingo, arts and crafts, everyday exercise, social hour, afternoon games, movies at seven, news and views discussions and more. Our residents participate in clubs that cover a range of interests, from books to poker to knitting and everything in between. We also offer classes in painting, jewelry making and various arts and crafts.

We also offer weekly shopping trips and trips to the movies and local restaurants. For those with a “green thumb”, we offer raised garden beds in our courtyard where our residents plant and grow flowers, herbs and vegetables. We host monthly theme dinners, casino nights, holiday parties and dances. Our retirement community also values diversity. We offer Shabbat services and Jewish culture classes on the Sabbath, in-house weekly Catholic communion services and transportation to local churches for weekend services as well.

Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community

Brookdale Woodbridge is very active in our local community. We hold a variety of events within our retirement community including monthly Alzheimer’s support group meetings, medical seminars and financial and veteran’s benefit information sessions. The staff and residents of Brookdale Woodbridge also enjoy working with local service groups such as the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. We frequently host events which bring the young residents of Brookdale Woodbridge to our community to participate in seasonal and holiday events such as our annual fall scarecrow village contest and fundraising event, Christmas caroling, Easter egg hunts, and Chanukah light festivals to name a few. We are also passionate about fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association of Connecticut and the Connecticut Food Bank among others.

Fine Dining

Dining is an important part of assisted living and we strive to provide a wonderful and diverse menu for our residents. Our dining services director is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. He is passionate about food. Our menus vary and include seasonal ingredients. Three homemade meals are served daily. Breakfast is open seating and made to order. We offer two seatings at lunch and dinner. Each meal offers a salad and hearty soup as well as two entrees and desserts. We also offer an “everyday menu” with classic favorites and comfort foods that can be ordered at any time. Residents are served in a restaurant-style atmosphere and are able to enjoy their meals in comfort with good company and conversations with friends. We also host specially themed dinners monthly including Hawaiian luaus, clambakes, Oktoberfest, Festa Italiana, holiday dinners and more.
