Resident & family reviews

First visit by potential resident and relatives

Our first impression was of an attractive building with a lovely fountain and garden area near the covered entryway. A large number of padded rockers were on the porch, and the front door is unlocked. We had an appointment for a tour, and were warmly received in the lobby by a staff member from housekeeping who had lots of personality. We met with the Director, and were then taken on a tour. We were introduced to staff members and allowed to visit several residents' rooms, with their permission, in order to see the private room layouts available. Some residents were participating in activities. There was a beautifu and well-maintained courtyard filled with roses and other flowers blooming. Some rooms opened onto the courtyard, or it could be accessed from the hallway. We especially liked the room where the bathroom is near the bed, and is not visible to the hall. This room has a sitting room adjacent, with a small kitchen area; incoming guests enter this room first. The closet off the bedroom is quite spacious, with shelving. The window is in the bedroom and the view is of the trees and lawn outdoors. The rooms are not furnished; residents must bring or rent furniture. Light housekeeping and bedmaking are done daily, and in-depth cleaning and linen change are done weekly. The resident's laundry is washed separately, so there is no need to label clothing. Seatin is assigned in the dining room, which is attractive. Menu selections are varied, and there is an "always available" list of menu items, as well, such as baked potato, sweet potato, salads, fruit plate, hot dogs, hamburgers. Three meals are provided, as well as snacks, and water is encouraged between meals. A private dining room is available for families and residents to celebrate a special occasion. Mail is delivered to a mailbox outside the resident's door. Residents have many opportunities for shopping trips and other outings, we were told; the activities calendar is posted, and daily announcements are made to remind residents of the day's activity schedule. The monthly rental/fee is based on being independent in personal care and medications. Any required personal services and medications require an additional fee. Cable TV is an extra cost, and the resident obtains and pays for his/her own telephone line. All in all, we were pleased and my mother in law plans to move in. I will post a comment again after we have experienced life at Morningside for about a month.
