I know that seeking a nursing home or rehabilitation center for oneself or a loved one is daunting. They all put up a facade intended to ease our guilt, and often we are motivated to accept conditions as fine though we feel uneasy or even suspicious by what administrators, nursing staff, and others say during their sale's pitch. Unless you're wealthy, no nursing home can match the freedom and sense of still mattering like your own home. But that doesn't mean they're all equally bad. This place, The Pointe, is objectively horrible. I can't even describe what I've seen there, but I can say that your loved one will soon become despondent, that they will not get adequate care or rehabilitation. They will be mistreated staff, and when they complain, retaliation will soon follow; they will be beaten down and accept their lot fairly quickly. But don't accept my word. There is a web site that the Medicare has created to help you make your decision. The Pointe gets 1 star out of 5 (linked below, if permitted by this site). The site has a forbidden symbol (circle with line through it) saying "This nursing home has reported a high number of days with no registered nurse staffing." Think about that. No RNs on site a significant number of days. But its problems include more than extremely negligent staffing shortages. The Pointe gets only 2 stars for health inspection results. Sadly, when you view the large number of citations, none of these include the hundreds (which someone has decided are unimportant) of complaints never official recorded. Things like leaving residents soiled in their beds for _hours_ and countless other indignities that make people no longer want to live. I cannot say more. But I implore you to avoid The Pointe and to use the online resources in your decision making. And wherever you and your parent or grandparent decide is best, believe them when you visit, when they describe their conditions. Don't say, "oh, you know how mom is; she'll get used to it." She will get used to it, but not because what she said wasn't true, but because she'd rather give up and accept abuse than feel like a 'burden' to her family. The nursing home, even the best, depends on that and will gaslight your loved one if you let them. Believe what your loved ones say, even if (especially if) it is inconvenient to do so.
