Willow Lane Review

My father has been in assisted care for 10 years - and in this facility for
about 5.5 years. He was more independent when he entered the facility than he
is now. As his dependency increases, so do my concerns about his care.
Positives: he is always clean, fed, and given his medication; the facility
never has a bad odor; it is quite lovely; the employees seem pleasant enough
when I visit and they know my dad by name. Concerns: They could communicate
better with me - especially when they reassess his needs and change his rates.
His room is not very clean most times (it gets a cursory dusting and vacuuming
weekly) but the bathroom is cleaned weekly and his bed is changed once a week.
His laundry is awful. They have destroyed his clothing with the harsh
detergents they use and lack of care to just hanging the pants and shirts - he
always looks like he wore everything to bed. Because of the change in his
mentation, he frequently "disrobes" during the waking hours and we may find him
in various states of undress when we walk into his room. i have asked them to
check on him more frequently - I am not sure how well they are doing that. I
have asked that they try to engage him more often in community activities to
keep him in 'real' time and to help with his mental status. I don't think they
are doing that either. Add to all of this the constant turnover in personnel -
contributing to his confusion. Of course, this is out of everyone's control -
but goes to the bigger problem of corporation. At times when I have complained
of some issues related to his physical space, it has taken quite some time to
solve the problem, but it eventually got solved. So, overall I would give this
facility an average rating.
