Key West Convalescent Center

Experience both as an employee and as daughter of a client. Where
to begin? As the only facility near my home at the time, it was
necessary for me to place my father in this center and I did so with
much guilt and dread. While I knew the professional nursing staff to
be caring and qualified, there were never enough of us (e.g. 1 RN per
60 residents, graveyard shift; extra clerical and non-nursing duties
were assigned to that shift, so that even during the quietest time,
nursing duties could not be completed (by me, anyhow). My guilt
made me resign. Non-professional nursing staff were poorly paid,
overworked, under-supervised, and irresponsible. Many were in-
sourced from countries of the former Eastern block; some either didn't
understand English or pretended not to. Incredible!
