My parents have been living at the Classic Residence By Hyatt at
Glenview (whose name has been suddenly changed to The Vi) since
2002. Their experience has been generally favorable. It is a high end
senior living community. The main reason they moved there was
because of the concept of ON-SITE 'continuum of care' as was
marketed to them and others and continues to be on their website
and other literature. My mom is in the final stages of congestive
heart failure and is in the hospital. She will be discharged very soon as
there is nothing much that can be done for her. She is a candidate for
the care center yet will not be able to be moved there because there
are no available beds. Rather, she will be "farmed out" to a nursing
home in the area. Now, my dad who is independent will not have the
convenience and luxury of having my mom "on site" and will have to
travel to visit her. What's worse is that this (not enough beds at the
care center) has been a problem there for years, and no efforts or
plans have been made ( to my knowledge) to expand the care
center. Potential new residents should be made aware of this, and I
highly doubt they are. I understand residents have signed some sort
of petition. The whole point they are paying thousands of dollars per
month is for the peace of mind of ONSITE continuum of care. Now,
when it is actually needed it is not available. Very disappointing to say
the least.
