Resident & family reviews
My father is a well known and respected veteran, so when it became apparent it
was time to place him and his wife in a home we began the months long process at
the La. War Veterans Home. Once all the necessary paperwork was done I moved my
parents in. They seemed to like it, the care was good and the food was good-all
was well until I got a call from one of the women in the office saying they had
made a mistake and it would cost us $2800 more per month. We were originally
quoted a price of $3400 for my father (a vet) and my mother (not a vet) and they
said they had thought both parents were vets. I don't know how they can make a
mistake like that-they said the new pricing would be $6200 for both parents. For
the life of me can't figure out how it would cost that much, since this facility
is subsidized by not only the state but the Federal VA system. This price is
higher than many private care facilities-when I asked to speak to the manager
about this problem, he was rude and condescending to both me and my father,
basically saying either pay or get out. So one week after moving my 88 yr. old
father and his 85 yr. old wife in, I moved them back out. Five days later, my
mother fell and broke her kneecap and is now in rehab again. I wonder how many
other vets are being quoted one price before they move in and another
afterwards. This smells to me-and it breaks my heart that this is how our vets
are being treated. Somebody needs to investigate this, as this is simply not right.
