Bethany Nursing Home, Inc

My mother has been at Bethany for approximately 5 years. She was very
resistant to the move at first. But, my father had died two years
earlier, and my mother's physical condition warranted that she be in a
facility with nursing care available 24/7. She has found the staff to
be very friendly and professional. She has even made some friends,
which has proven difficult for her in the past due to her solitary
nature. She does complain about the food, especially dinner. She has
told me several times, "They don't know the first thing about making
pumpkin pie!" She is nearly 90 and she was a fine cook and baker. So,
I guess she has a right to complain. I was surprised to learn that this
facility is rated for 39 seniors. It seems much larger. There are no
apartments, as far as I know. My mom has 2 rooms; sitting room with
sofa, tv, etc., and a bedroom/bathroom combination. The place is very
clean. There are several very nice "restaurant style" dining rooms, but
my mom prefers to have dinner delivered to her room. One negative point:
on 2 occasions, my mom was taken to the hospital ER and admitted for a
few days. When she returned to Bethany, her room assignment had been
changed. Her stuff was moved around and she was angry. Perhaps this
could be addressed before any agreement is signed and before moving your
parent into Bethany.
