Keep a close eye on your loved ones care

My grandma was in this facility. She was 87, in great health, living on
her own and still driving. Completely self reliant. She tripped in a
parking lot and broke her pelvis. She was in the hospital for a few
days. During that time, still very alert, upbeat and although in some
pain, generally happy. She was then transferred to Crestwood to
rehabilitate. It was to just be until she could get around again to go
home. After being at Crestwood for a week or two she was seeing
things, hearing things, and telling our family that she was getting
yelled at for asking to be taken to the bathroom too often, that they
wouldn't take her at night, saying it is night time. She said they would
not clean her. My grandma went from a beautiful well groomed classy
woman to a confused, dirty, unkempt woman who just didn't care, in no
time at all. Because of her confusion, we were not quick enough to
believe the complaints she made, thinking them due to her confusion.
She died 3 weeks after being put in Crestwood. I have so many
regrets. Mainly that I did not look into some of the things she said.
Only recently when a family member saw a member of the Crestwood
staff that was not my grandmas nurse, but really liked her and looked
in on her from time to time, did we learn that the allegations she
made were probably true. All it would have taken was for us to look
into it. So I do not have proof of this negligence, because it is too
late. I have learned some specific details of the neglect to my
grandma. Don't let it happen to your loved one.
