North Central Care Center

Did my NAC clinicals there. Only about 10% of the staff seems
to actually care about the residents. I was appalled to witness
aides changing briefs with no gloves and then going to the
dining room to feed patients with no hand washing what so ever.
I also witnessed aides verbally abusing patients who obviously
already struggled with the devisation of Dementia.It caused the
patient to be fearful and upset.( I was able to calmly kindly
work with the patient and there was no combatitive response, in
fact the patient smiled and let me help him.) One aide would
taunt and tease the patient he was supposed to be feeding in the
dining room. He would hold an empty spoon up to the man's lips
and pretending to feed him would laugh as the patient struggled
to work his tongue to gain the non existent food. It was so
disrespectful and wrong. Also the activities department in this
center is a joke. The activities consisted of having even high
functioning patients do toddler puzzles. There was no music, no
real interaction, or laughter. No wonder the patients did not
want to attend. I reported what I saw to my instructor. I was
not convinced that anything was done to change it. The whole
atmosphere was depressing. Would not place my dog there.I would
never work there as it is the opposite of quality care.
