Laurel Suites (mainly serving dementia adults) at Laurel Oaks is technically
assisted living, although they do not tell you this unless your loved one is on
Medicare. This is probably why they can have minimal staffing. In my opinion if
your loved one has only mild cognitive impairment, he/she might do alright, but
if he/she has moderate to severe dementia/ Alzheimer you might think twice
before placing your loved one here, as he/she might not get the needed attention.
Laurel Oaks is a for-profit corporation. Many of these institutions hire less
qualified workers in order to maximize profits. To me this seemed to be the case
at Laurel Suites. Don't be fooled by what you see on the surface; it is pretty.
Make sure you look deeper.
A visiting outside therapist told me, "It's too bad they spent all that money on
this place but didn't design it for people with memory issues. The spaces are
too big, and the hallway (to resident rooms) is too long and winding."

At Laurel Suites, the memory care unit of Laurel Oaks, my parent's injury was
denied by staff and sickness ignored in spite of my parent's complaints and my
report to the manager. Off site doctor confirmed injury and sickness. Manager
lied about an error she made which likely contributed to serious illness of my
parent. Inadequate staff to meet the needs of residents, resulting in residents
wandering without use of needed walkers and high anxiety of residents. At least
4 serious resident falls resulting in severe facial bruising. Unsanitary
conditions (feces) left uncleaned for a couple days in resident room.
