My son was admitted to this facility. When we visited the first time we
found it totally disgusting. It was nastiest place I have every seen.
There were no mattress covers, drapes, or light in his room....no
privacy. The mattress was covered with filth, some of which looked like
dried blood. The walls were being painted and all equipment was left
in his room. Just what a mentally ill person needs is paint and paint
thinner to sniff or drink. There was not a light bulb in the fixture?he
could have stuck his finger in the socket and gotten a nice shock. The
kitchen had a freezer that was locked but the seal was warped and air
could get in. Food was left on the stove, the air conditioner appeared
to have mold on it. Water pitchers were stored near the mops and
other cleaning supplies. Saturday night Buncombe County Sheriffs
Dept. was dispatched to the facility due to two residents being drunk
and fighting, one resident was arrested.
It is very hard for me to understand how the State of NC could allow
this type of facility to operate. It breaks my heart that anyone could
be forced to live in these conditions.
