About Huger Mercy Living Center
Huger Mercy Living Center is a 48-bed, assisted living facility, providing directed care for persons living with Alzheimer’s disease andother dementias. Staff provides a state-of-the-art innovative dementia care program in a homelike setting with around the clock care,
following a social, activity-based model. This mission-based program strives to instill dignity and quality of life for each person despite
the progressive impairment of dementia.
Activities/Services
This restraint-free environment relies on behavior modification and provides activities from the beginning waking hours to bedtime. All
activities of daily living, exercise, crafts, spirituality programs, art, music, baking, sweeping, gardening, and eating are structured
activities. Higher functioning residents participate in off-campus outings, such as going to the park or the ice cream parlor. Twenty-four
hour supervision with activities of daily living is provided. Three meals, restaurant-style, are provided daily. Distribution of medication
is provided by a specially trained caregiver. Families may visit any time. Family Support Groups are conducted monthly.
Staffing
All caregivers are Certified Nursing Assistants who receive additional training to provide care for persons with dementia. Huger Mercy
Living Center is not licensed to provide care for tube feedings, catheters, or IVs. A resident may be sent to St. Joseph’s Hospital and
Medical Center or another hospital for short-term acute care needs. A ratio of 1:6 staff to resident ratio allows caregivers to help with
ADL, perform light housekeeping, and provide daily activities in each cottage according to the activity calendar and resident-specific needs.
A Geriatrician directs the overall care of each resident, and conducts monthly multidisciplinary treatment plan reviews on each resident.
All service plans address the resident’s emotional, mental, physical, social, cultural, and spiritual needs. A full time LPN is on campus
daily to oversee the clinical care of each residents as well as a full time on-site certified Assisted Living Manager. There is also a nurse
practitioner that sees residents biweekly, and on an as needed basis, and is on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
