The good news about this Mid-Western city is that it’s relatively affordable. Peoria ALFs and other care options will vary depending on a number of factors—location, amenities, etc.—so we’ve included averages as a starting point. According to a Genworth Financial survey, a one-bedroom in a Peoria assisted living facility averages $3,063 per month. The level of care in nursing homes is higher so costs are higher. A private room in a Peoria nursing home averages $6,083 month, while a semi-private averages $5,209. A home health aide averages $3,527 monthly while homemaker services (cooking, running errands, etc.) average $3,384 a month. Peoria’s overall cost of living is 13% lower than the national average.

The Wildlife Prairie State Park, located just outside of Peoria, is a true wonder. It’s a 2,000-acre park home to over 150 Illinois native animals—i.e. wolves, bear, cougar, otter, bison. And it’s loaded with hiking/biking trails, four fishing lakes, and animal programs such as a Birds of Prey presentation.
Among the city’s performing arts are the Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Peoria Municipal Band, Civic Chorale, Central Illinois Youth Symphony, and the Peoria Ballet. It’s also home to one of the oldest community theaters in the country, the Peoria Players. For a memorable experience, the Corn Stock Theater is an outdoor theater in the round.
