Lansing is home of Michigan State University (MSU) and an iconic car company. MSU, founded in 1855, is one of the country’s top research universities. Ransom E. Olds (REO) founded the Olds Motor Vehicle Company in Lansing in 1897. The name changed to REO Motor Care Company and was eventually bought by General Motors in 1908. GM stopped producing the Oldsmobile brand in 2004 after nearly 100 years. Learn more about one of Lansing’s most famous sons at the RE Olds Transportation Museum. On display is the first Oldsmobile built in 1897.
