The Wild West endures in Abilene thanks to attractions like the Buffalo Gap Historic Village, featuring 21 buildings from the frontier era, Indian artifacts and period firearms. Another popular attraction is Frontier Texas! This museum has life-sized holographic figures from the area's history between 1780 and 1880 including cowboys, Comanche and buffalo. The 12th Armored Division Memorial Museum captures more a more recent era - the division's role in WWII. Downtown's Grace Museum tells the Texas story through art, history and science. Just outside of town lies Fort Phantom Hill - an Army outpost dating to 1851 - and its skeletal remains

Nature lovers will enjoy the Abilene Zoo, home to over 600 animals from around the world. Abilene State Park is a great place to watch wildlife - deer, fox, armadillo, roadrunner, among others - in their home environment. Fish in Buffalo Wallow Pond.

The city has five senior centers that host a variety of activities and services. You'll find exercise classes, ballroom dancing, arts and crafts, field trips, computer training and more. In addition, Abilene maintains 27 parks covering over 1,000 acres.

Abilene ALFs (and other care options) will vary depending on a number of factors so we've included average costs as a reference point. According to a Genworth Financial survey, a one-bedroom in an Abilene assisted living facility averages $3,543 per month. The level of care in nursing homes is higher so costs are higher.
