Montgomery Assisted Living

Montgomery Assisted Living

Montgomery was the first capital of the Confederate States of America. It's the home of the Civil Rights Movement. And it's the capital of Alabama. With its rich history, low cost of living and variety of cultural amenities, Montgomery is an ideal city for seniors looking for assisted living.

Montgomery's overall cost of living is 4% below the national average. And long-term care prices are equally affordable. A private, one-bedroom in a Montgomery assisted living facility averages $3,125 a month, according to a recent Genworth Financial survey on long-term care. The national average is $3,261. For a private room in Montgomery nursing home, expect to pay $193 a day on average--a semi-private averages $183. These averages are about 10% below the national nursing home averages.

The Alabama Department of Public Health is responsible for regulating and monitoring all senior assisted living facilities in the state. Alabama regulations state "an assisted living facility shall employ sufficient staff and ensure sufficient staff are on duty to meet the care needs of all residents twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week." If you'd like to see health inspection reports on assisted living facilities and nursing homes, visit the Alabama Department of Public Health.

The Montgomery area has over a dozen senior centers that provide a place to socialize, exercise, take classes, play games and meet new friends. Some of the locations include the St. Paul AME Church, Perry Hill United Methodist, and the Freewill Senior Center.

Some of Montgomery's cultural attractions include the Wynton M. Blount Cultural Park, which is home to the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. The famous Alabama Shakespeare Festival--one of the largest in the world--operates year-round at the Carolyn Blount Theater. The Davis Theater for the Performing Arts plays host to the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, the Alabama Dance Theater and the Montgomery Ballet. The Civil Rights Memorial--a similar design to the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C.--honors the legacy of those involved with the Civil Rights Movement.
