If you're not familiar with Milwaukee, your first impression may be Laverne and Shirley, breweries, and blue-collar workers. But oh, how things have changed in the Brew City. For seniors looking for assisted living options, Milwaukee could be your retirement utopia.

This city on the shores of Lake Michigan has received so many accolades it's difficult to know where to start. We'll give you a partial list to get a feel: "Top Five Places to Retire". "13th Most Walkable City in America". "25th Most Fun City in America". "Top 50 Adventure Towns". "Top Comeback Cities". "Top 10 Cool Cities to Call Home". "2nd Safest City in America". The list goes on.

Here a few of the amenities awaiting you in Milwaukee: The 35-mile Urban Water Trail, is a canoeing and kayaking system along the Milwaukee, Menomonee, and Kinnickinnic Rivers, with access points, portages, and resting sites as well as information on historic, cultural, and ecological, points of interest. The city has an award-winning Parks and Recreation system with areas for cross-country skiing, mountain biking, birding, hiking and just about any sport you can think of.

Every year, the city hosts dozens of festivals like Summerfest, "the world's largest music festival". There’s also German Fest, Festa Italiana, Polish Fest, the French, and many more. Combined with the performing arts (e.g. Florentine Opera, Milwaukee Symphony, Milwaukee Ballet), there’s always something going on in the city, year-round.

The hardest part about retiring to may be deciding where to look for an assisted living community. Do you want to be close to Lake Michigan? In the suburbs? We’ll try to help you narrow your search.
