New Haven Retirement Communities

The right New Have assisted living facility (ALF) is here. It’s just a matter of doing a little research before you find it. We’ve provided some useful facts—including facility costs—on the “Elm City” that should help in your search.

A big consideration when searching for a New Haven assisted living facility (and other care options) will be cost. According to a Genworth Financial survey, a one-bedroom in a New Haven assisted living facility averages $4,800 a month compared with the national average of $3,300. A private room in a New Haven nursing home averages $12,661 month, while a semi-private averages $11,414. Home health aide services average $4,099 a month and homemaker services (cooking, running errands, etc.) average $3,766. New Haven’s cost of living is 17% higher than the U.S. average.

For a relatively small city, New Haven has some impressive cultural attractions thanks to the presence of Yale University. The Peabody Museum boasts over 11 million objects ranging from Egyptian mummies to Native American tools to the geological history of Connecticut. The Yale Center for British Art has the “most comprehensive collection of British art outside the United Kingdom. Yale’s Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library contains one of the most impressive collections of original manuscripts in the world from the original Gutenberg Bible to papers by Washington Irving, Henry Longfellow, and George Washington among many others.

Around every corner in New Haven lurks something of historical importance. The 16-acre New Haven Green park was completed in 1638 by the city’s Puritans and is home to three 18th century churches. Fort Nathan Hale was constructed in 1776 to protect the port of New Haven. Beautiful Edgerton Park was once the home of Eli Whitney.
